Her career in journalism began with Myrtle Beach South Carolina as an anchor and reporter for news with WPDE-TV. She later became a morning news anchor as well as crime reporter for WCBD TV. O'Dell's reports in Charleston regarding the police's tolerance when it comes to DUI cases prompted a State Law Enforcement Division to investigate. This led to state authorities issuing more strict rules in these instances. It was reported that the Associated Press honored Ms. O'Dell by awarding her the Best Report of the Years award in the entirety of South Carolina Media. In the years following her stay at Charleston, O'Dell worked as a co-anchor for the NBC's Miami Station WTVJ-TV as well as an investigative journalist. She then became a part of Access Hollywood to work as an anchor on weekends and weekdays. In addition, she serves as an anchor on Dateline NBC and NBC News Today. She's covered events such including The Oscars The Emmys The Grammys and The Golden Globe Awards as well as co-hosting a number of pre-show arrivals for The Emmys and the Golden Globes. She hosted both the Miss USA and Miss Universe pageants.
